The Place Saint Vincent, which faces the cathedral, is lined with half-timbered houses. On Sundays and Friday mornings, there is a market. The rest of the time, caf\u00e9s and restaurants occupy this lively square. In the middle of the Sa\u00f4ne, there is a small island with many restaurants. On the quays, there is a museum of photography in homage to Nic\u00e9phore Niepce, inventor of photography. Every year, on the third weekend of July, Chalon comes alive with the sound of the street theatre festival &#8220;Chalon dans la Rue&#8221;. For 4 days, dozens of street shows take place in the four corners of the city.
