Rock of Solutré, Prehistoric Burgundy
The Rock of Solutré stands out in the hilly landscape of the Mâconnais overlooking the surrounding vineyards.
A set out walking track makes it fairly easy to reach the top, from where you can enjoy magnificent panoramic viewpoints over the South of Burgundy and the Beaujolais. There are quite a few other walking tracks in this area, for example to the Roche de Vergisson, just next to Solutré.
Solutré is also an important archaeologic place where one has found traces of human life dating back to 57.000 years. You can visit the prehistoric museum to find out more about our ancestors who lived here a very long time ago.
The Rock of Solutré is at approx. 60 kilometers from the campsite.
