Cluny Abbey, the jewel of medieval Christianity in the heart of Burgundy

Built in the 10th century, Cluny Abbey was the largest and most prestigious abbey in the western world. It extended its influence over the whole of Europe with more than 1000 priories under its authority. Unfortunately, Cluny Abbey did not survive the French Revolution, during which it was heavily damaged. Its remains are still impressive enough and a visit to them allows you to imagine the gigantic size of the place.
