Campsite Burgundy near Brancion

A few kilometres from Tournus and only 23 kilometres from the Castel Camping Château de l’Epervière, the medieval village of Brancion perches on the heights of a hill. This former stronghold of southern Burgundy has retained its medieval character with the ruins of its castle and a beautiful Romanesque church overlooking the Cluny plain. A visit to the village is worthwhile today as much for its pretty buildings steeped in history as for the beautiful views that the village offers over the Tournugeois and the Clunysois plain. During the summer, medieval animations come to animate the streets of the village.

A campsite 60 km from Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines

Although Beaune is well worth a walk through its old town, it is especially worthwhile for its famous Hospices. The term Hospices includes the hospital centre, the Hospice of Charity and above all the Hôtel-Dieu. It is the latter that comes to mind when one thinks of the Hospices. The pride of Beaune and a true masterpiece of Burgundy-Flemish art, this building covered with glazed tiles was built in the 15th century. In addition to its façade and its extraordinary chambre des pauvres (an immense 72-metre long room sheltered by a superb vault in the shape of the hull of an overturned ship), the Hôtel-Dieu is also worth seeing for its collections. It is a sumptuous setting for one of the jewels of religious painting, Rogier Van der Weyden’s Last Judgement.
